Signs You Have A Gas Leak<\/h2>\n

Natural gas itself is odorless, but the hazards of gas leaks leading to explosions or suffocation are great enough that the gas company adds a special odorant that smells like rotten eggs.\u00a0 A hissing sound but no water spray is also a give-away.\u00a0 Other symptoms include a cold pipe or even frost (every type of gas cools down\u00a0if a leak reduces its pressure).\u00a0 You may notice lower pressure at a gas stove.\u00a0 If there’s a problem in the line leading to your home or business it could cause dead or unhealthy-looking landscaping.<\/p>\n

If you clearly have a gas leak, leave the area immediately and call 911.<\/strong>\u00a0 Do\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0turn off lights or appliances (that can cause an ignition spark).\u00a0 Likewise don’t unplug or plug in anything.\u00a0\u00a0Also, don’t loose possibly valuable time opening windows, and don’t call from within a closed space.\u00a0 And of course no smoking or open flames.\u00a0 You can use the main shut off valve, but\u00a0only<\/em>\u00a0if it’s located a safe distance from where you\u00a0found\u00a0the leak.<\/p>\n

Gas Line Repairs<\/h2>\n

Gas leak repairs are usually inexpensive.\u00a0 They’re often caused by old seals or gaskets, which can be quickly replaced.\u00a0 The same goes for flex-lines at water heaters, dryers, and stoves.\u00a0 Loose fittings and connections are easily tightened.\u00a0 With our gas leak repair, detection, and isolation experts we can quickly and affordably take care of any of these problems.<\/p>\n

But on rare occasions gas lines are themselves the culprit, typically in older buildings.\u00a0 Black iron pipe is often used in construction to save money.\u00a0 That’s fine above ground, but moisture can lead to corrosion and that can in turn lead to anything from a pinhole leak to a pipe rupture.\u00a0 Spot repairs mean opening holes in walls, floors, or ceilings in the building and digging for underground lines outdoors.\u00a0 If a line inspection shows that the gas pipes are in poor condition it may well be time for a gas line replacement.<\/p>\n

Today gas lines have the option of PE (polyethylene pipe) or CSST (corrugated stainless-steel tubing).\u00a0 They’re both long lasting and less expensive to install plain or coated black iron pipe.\u00a0 You also now have more options to avoid digging.\u00a0 Trenchless gas line replacement methods include pipe lining, pipe bursting, boring, and directional drilling. \t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
